“Takata, the Japanese company facing billions in liabilities stemming from its defective air bag inflators, is preparing to file for bankruptcy as early as next week as it works toward a deal for financial backing from U.S. auto parts maker Key Safety Systems, sources said on Thursday.”

I knew it was only a matter of time. I’m surprised it took this long. So what is this going to mean for all those people that have active recalls?

    Well, the inevitable happened.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the ongoing recalls, but if you haven’t gotten your vehicle in and repaired at this point…. if you have been contacted about it, that is…. you certainly shouldn’t complain too much!

There are a lot of people that have recall notices and can’t get it taken care of because backlog. Or no fix yet for a particular model. I don’t see this ending well for a lot of consumers. I got a notice for my truck and it said not too take it in because a fix was not available. It recommend not driving the truck until further notice. That’s some bullspit there.

Having them stop making airbags would be sweet justice, but this shouldn’t end with just Takata. All the manufacturers who knowingly used their inflators are complicit (or at the very least negligent) as well.
